EP 19: The Other L Word - Leadership

What is the the other L word? Leadership. You see, I believe that cultivating a world where every person is the lead in their own life and embodies the essence of leadership with others, well that can change everything. For you. For your loved ones. For the world.

Leadership doesn't require outside permission, a certain size team, a title, a specific background, or anything external.

The most impactful and rewarding leadership begins on the inside. It begins with you being your own greatest advocate and seeing all that you have to contribute. It begins with you taking on your own internal personal thoughts about yourself.

Discussion Recap

  • Leadership doesn't require outside permission, a certain size team, a title, a specific background, or anything external.

  • The most impactful and rewarding leadership begins on the inside. It begins with you being your own greatest advocate and seeing all that you have to contribute.

  • It begins with you taking on your own internal personal thoughts about yourself.

"I don't have anything to say."
"Some one else has said it better."
    "Who cares about my stories."
"I don't want to take up too much of the spotlight."
"I'm better at flying under the radar."
    "It didn't work out before."
"I'm just grateful they gave me the promotion, I don't need a raise."
"It is selfish to put myself first."
"I don't have enough experience to go for that role."
"I don't have enough experience to start that business."
"I don't have enough experience to charge those rates."
    "I'm scared to disappoint people."
"I don't want to be disliked or create conflict."

  • It is these type of pesky narratives (and hundreds more) that keep women playing a smaller game than they actually want (small being relative for them).

  • What is a small game for you will be different than what is a small game for someone else (don't compare).

  • Which brings us back to - leadership starts on the inside. From a place of fully stepping into your badass self, the world will shift around you. Because you'll be speaking with more impact. You'll be going after that role. You'll be taking the actions to grow your business. You'll be having the confronting conversations. You'll launch that idea that has been gnawing at the back of your mind. And you'll stop subtlety apologizing for what you are or are not and start owning everything you bring to the world.

  • One exercise you can take on is to sit down and write everything about your background, experiences, education, roles you've had, places you've traveled, conversations you've had, and so on. Be generous with yourself as you write this. Everything is fair game. You have tons to contribute!

  • No one wins if you talk yourself out of the leader that you already are. And the leader that you are evolving into.

  • With this week being valentines day, the L word (ahem love) will be on full display. My invitation for you is to let the other L word be on full display this week too.

  • In fact, consider that leadership is an act of love and love is an act of leadership. Mind blown.
